Davida is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, Certified Clinical Trauma Professional Level 2, Board Certified Music Therapist, Certified Yoga Teacher, Reiki Master, and Remo Health Rhythms Empowerment Drum Facilitator. Davida is also fully trained in EMDR trauma therapy. Davida has worked in both agency and private practice settings, with children, teens, adults, and families in a variety of roles from primary therapist to program director.
Davida combines Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Acceptance Commitment Therapy, music therapy, energy psychology, shame resilience, mindfulness, creative arts, and body awareness from a trauma informed point of view to target the needs of each client in a creative and comprehensive manner.
As a music therapist, Davida specializes in drum circle facilitation, mindfulness and toning, and therapeutic songwriting. Davida has a bachelor’s degree in music therapy from Berklee College of Music.
Davida’s work using “Rock Therapy” with teens has been written about in the San Diego Reader, San Diego Women’s Magazine, and has been featured on About.com.
Davida is an advocate for mental health and served on the San Diego Chapter of the California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists Board of Directors from 2011 to 2015. Davida filled most roles on the board during that time, including the role of President.
As a Music Teacher and Music Therapist, Davida has been a piano teacher, the musical director of a Children’s Theater, and has worked in various settings including hospice and schools. In 2006, Davida traveled to Gulu, Uganda, to help implement music therapy and music education programs in areas that had been affected by war.
Davida co-founded and co-facilitated YogaDrum between 2010-2015 wherein the community was invited on a monthly or quarterly basis to engage in body, mind, spiritual, and creative wellness.
When not in the office, Davida likes to read, play music, draw, run, do yoga, be with friends and family, and color and do lego with her kiddos.
